Oral Healthcare - Gum Disease

Gum Disease will show itself as red, swollen gums that bleed when brushed or flossed. Many patients stop brushing when their gums begin to bleed however provided it is not painful it is important that you continue to clean regularly and firmly in order to fight the condition. Brushing will remove the plaque and food debris from around your teeth and reduce swelling of the gums and in turn the bleeding.

Treatment of gum disease

The early stages of gum disease are easily treated. A 30 minute appointment with our hygienist for scaling & polishing will gently remove plaque and tartar deposits from the tooth surface. This may be carried out under local anesthetic for those with more sensitive teeth. Depending on the severity of gum disease more than one visit may be required, after which a maintenance program is recommended. Good oral hygiene is a key factor in how well the gums respond to treatment.
